Good news:  
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 13 December 2006.   Read its text here.
POCAM organised a NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CURRENT ISSUES FACED BY THE DISABLED IN MALAYSIA on 9th and 10th June 2006 in Kuala Lumpur.  It was well attended, by about 130 participants from throughout Malaysia.

Good news: As a result of lobbying from several organisations for the disabled, the Road Transport Department (RTD) has decided to abolish the need for handicapped people to present themselves at its offices to renew licences and road tax, has met with positive response.  Read more about it here.

"Basic needs of all must be taken care of first", says our President in a letter to the Star on 7th August 2005.

Our President sent a letter to The Star on 20th July 2005, in response to the statement that Selangor has achieved the status of a developed state.

POCAM was disappointed with the statement by Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu regarding disabled persons being not agile enough for jobs in toll booths (New Straits Times, June 20, 2005).  We wrote about this to the New Straits Times in a letter published on June 27, 2005.

The Bi-annual General Meeting was held on 5 June 2005, in Petaling Jaya.   Nearly 200 members attended, and a new Executive Committee was elected
